2017 Toyota Sienna Minivan Review: “Keep on Vannin”

By Autoreviewman

The very popular Toyota Sienna minivan has been a family favorite for years, and it is not hard to see why. There is a Sienna to suit every budget in seven model offerings and the option of 7 or 8 passenger configurations, and the only All -Wheel-Drive minivan model in the Canadian market.  Available options packages are very attractive, and the Sienna can be had in well-equipped base models ($33,690) to super-loaded luxury limo-like versions costing over 50 grand. Although due for a 2018 revamp, for now, the Sienna uses a new 3.5 liter V6 engine producing 296 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque through six and eight-speed transmissions.

We tested the top range XLE AWD with the eight-speed transmission in the seven passenger version, equipped with the fully loaded Limited Package option that included such features as: heated steering wheel, JBL Synthesis system, Dual-View, Blu-Ray rear seat entertainment system with 16.4” wide dual-screen monitor, HDMI input, and two sets of wireless headphones, Available Driver Easy Speak system, which uses the vehicle’s built-in Microphone to amplify the driver’s voice through the rear speakers. Also featured were leather seating, 19” Aluminum Alloy Wheels, Rear Parking Assist Sonar and a power Moon roof. Other options are too numerous to list here.

The Sienna interior is pleasing and inviting, especially on the upper range models and there is enough room and creature comforts to keep all occupants happy. All the seats are comfortable and there is a sliding second row that slides for more versatility.

On the road, the Sienna has been tuned for better fuel economy and power, however it is at the expense of quicker acceleration. It takes a tad longer to reach passing speeds, but there is adequate power, especially with a full load of passengers. Good visibility, easy steering and parking aids help in navigating the Sienna in tight lots and busy streets. The All-Wheel Drive version we tested certainly proved its worth with plenty of traction and superior road holding in the recent bad winter. There are not many complaints here. With seven models to choose from a plethora of options, it prudent to choose wisely which Sienna works for you.
