THE New Westminster Police Department is upgrading its online reporting to make it easier and faster for residents to report non-emergency incidents in multiple languages from their computer or mobile device.
This modernized tool allows community members to report incidents like property theft, mischief, fraud, and problem traffic areas.
“We heard loud and clear from residents that online reporting was an area for improvement,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “It’s now faster, more accessible, and includes new features that make the process simpler from start to finish.”
Features include:
- A recovery link that allows residents to add to an incomplete report for 30 days.
- Multiple languages including: Tigrinya, French, Arabic, Somali, Chinese (simplified) and Dari.
- Email notifications let residents know what happens next with their report.
Residents can report non-emergency incidents in three steps: select the incident type, fill out the online form, and submit and receive confirmation. These reports provide the New Westminster Police Department with the data necessary to more effectively deploy police resources. Online reporting is not suitable for emergencies, crimes in progress, incidents involving violence, or incidents where the suspect is known.
