Community Safety Unit conducts enforcement action at warehouses in Richmond, Vancouver, Vernon

THE Province’s Community Safety Unit (CSU) conducted enforcement action at four warehouses throughout B.C., estimated to be worth nearly $8 million.

The CSU investigators carry out compliance and enforcement activities against unlicensed cannabis retailers and producers in the province, under the authority of the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act (CCLA).

At the four warehouses in Richmond, Vancouver and Vernon, the CSU investigators seized a significant amount of cannabis, including cannabis plants, dried cannabis and cannabis edibles. The initial estimate of the seized cannabis is nearly $8 million. That amount could change after further processing of the items seized.

The CSU was supported in the enforcement actions since May 2026 by the Richmond and Vernon RCMP detachments and the Vancouver Police Department.

Operators who are found to be selling or producing unregulated cannabis may be subject to administrative monetary penalties. If an administrative monetary penalty is imposed, details of the decision will be posted on the CSU website: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/safety/public-safety/cannabis/csu/enforcement-actions-and-statistics.

As these matters are subject to further investigation, no more information can be provided at this time, the government said.

The CSU, within the Policing and Security Branch of the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, is a provincial enforcement unit responsible for ensuring compliance with the CCLA. The CSU investigates unlicensed cannabis operations throughout British Columbia.

Working in partnership with law enforcement and regulatory agencies throughout B.C. and Canada, the CSU helps disrupt illegal cannabis activity and supports a safe, lawful and well-regulated cannabis market.

To support compliance with the CCLA, the CSU has a range of enforcement authorities, including:

* conducting inspections without a warrant

* seizing and destroying cannabis

* obtaining warrants and issuing demands for information

* imposing administrative monetary penalties

* applying for an injunction from the Supreme Court of B.C.

The CSU’s primary objective is to achieve voluntary compliance through education and progressive enforcement. However, where businesses continue to produce and/or sell illegal and unregulated cannabis products, the CSU will take progressive enforcement action.

Enforcement action is determined on a case-by-case basis, considering factors such as public safety, links to organized crime, impact to the legal market and the Province’s commitment to reconciliation.
