IN a virtual meeting with Indian Consul General Manish in Vancouver, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney last week pointed out that his province’s engagement with Indian companies is growing, and noted the decisions of Indian IT companies Infosys and Mphasis to invest in Calgary.

Manish and Kenney were reviewing the state of bilateral relations between Alberta and India and exchanged ideas to further improve trade and economic relations, including working together in priority sectors like agriculture, energy, education, IT and ITES. Kenny conveyed his vision for a comprehensive partnership between India and Alberta in the overall framework of Indo-Canada relationship. Kenney also reiterated his support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of India.

In the last few months, Calgary has become the preferred destination for Indian IT giants Infosys and Mphasis to expand their presence in Canada. Infosys, a global leader in next-generation digital services and consulting, announced last March that it would be bringing 500 jobs to Calgary over the next three years, doubling its Canadian workforce to 4,000 employees by 2023.

As reported in Global News on June 2, Calgary will be getting hundreds of more tech jobs with the arrival of Mphasis. The cloud and cognitive services provider based in Bangalore, India, announced that it would be building its Canadian headquarters in Calgary, bringing 500 to 1,000 jobs in the next two years.

Calgary will also become home to a quantum computing learning space as Mphasis partners with the University of Calgary to create the Quantum City centre of excellence.
