Angrez a resounding success

IF there is one movie you have to take in this season, it’s got to be the Punjabi movie Angrez that has blown away the competition across North America.

According to one news report, Angrez has grossed approximately US$597,405 (Rs 3.82 crore) from 80 screens at the overseas box office in its first weekend. Its per-screen average collection stands at US$7,467.

In Canada, in its first weekend, the movie has topped the business chart, pushing down Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Drishyam and Baahubali.

Compared to 5,000 screens for Mission Impossible, Angrez captured 5th spot although it was being shown on only 38 screens, according to one report.

Indeed, it’s a proud moment for Punjabi cinema.

As a result of the huge demand, Angrez will now be screened at Guildford Surrey (15051 101st Avenue) and Silvercity Richmond (14211 Entertainment Way).

Local film producer and distributor Aman Khatkar warns piracy makers of the movie that the penalty is $25,000-$1,000,000 with six months in prison. If someone sends them proof of pirated DVDs of the movie, they will receive a special reward, he says.

Angrez has been produced under the banner Dara Productions and J Studio and stars Amrinder Gill, Ammy Virk, Binnu Dhillon, Sardar Sohi and Aditi Sharma. It is directed by Simerjit Singh and written by Amberdeep Singh. Screenplay is by Amberdeep Singh.
