PREMIER David Eby has called a byelection for the electoral district of Abbotsford-Mission.
Final voting day will be Saturday, September 26.
The seat became vacant when Reann Gasper resigned as MLA on Saturday, August 22. Gasper quit so that B.C. Conservative Party Leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay could try to be elected to the B.C. Legislative Assembly.

IT seems that Eby’s move is a strategic one. A by-election must be scheduled and held within six months of the vacancy. But Eby evidently decided to hold this one as soon as possible to take advantage of the ongoing chaos in the BC Conservative Party as one MLA after another quits the party and there are demands for Findlay to step down as leader amidst all the growing resentment.
Eby announced that former MLA Pam Alexis is the BCNDP candidate for Abbotsford-Mission.
He said: “She’s deeply committed to her community and I know she’ll fight every day for better health care access, lower housing costs, and continued progress on our plan.”
Alexis was MLA from 2020 to 2024 and was Minister of Agriculture and Food.
ELECTIONS BC announced that a provincial by-election has been called for Saturday, September 26 in the Abbotsford-Mission electoral district.
Individuals are eligible to vote in the by-election if they are:
- a Canadian citizen,
- 18 or older on Saturday, September 26, 2026,
- a resident of the Abbotsford-Mission electoral district, and
- a resident of B.C. since March 25, 2026.
Eligible voters can register or update their voter information now, online or by phone, or in-person when they go to vote.
There are many options for eligible voters to vote in this by-election. This includes:
- Advance voting, which will be available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026 to Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
- Final Voting Day, which is Saturday, September 26, 2026 and voting places will be opened from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

- Abbotsford-Mission will be the 203rd provincial by-election administered in B.C., and the first by-election held since the 2024 Provincial General Election.
- Candidate nominations close at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 5. The final list of candidates will be posted on Election BC’s website after nominations close.
- Preliminary results will be announced as soon as possible after the close of voting at 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 26.
- Official results will be announced on Thursday, October 1, after the completion of final count.
