Conservatives 42%, Liberals 24%, NDP 18%: Abacus Data Poll

IN the latest Abacus Data Poll conducted from February 29 to March 6, findings reveal a significant lead for the Conservatives over the Liberals amidst declining evaluations of the Trudeau government’s performance.

Surveying 1,500 Canadian adults, the poll shows the Conservatives ahead by 18 points (CPC 42, LPC 24, NDP 18), marking 658 consecutive days of leading the Liberals in Abacus Data’s polling.

The political landscape appears stable with little change since the beginning of the year. Regionally, the Conservatives dominate across the board, including a substantial lead in the Prairies, BC, Ontario, and Atlantic Canada, with the Bloc Québécois leading in Quebec.

Demographically, the Conservative support spans all age groups, whereas the Liberal vote share increases with the respondent’s age, a trend inversely observed for the NDP. Despite varied efforts, perceptions of party leaders Justin Trudeau, Pierre Poilievre, and Jagmeet Singh remain largely unchanged, reflecting a persistent public mood of pessimism towards Canada’s direction and the global outlook. Only a quarter of Canadians believe the country is headed in the right direction, with a mere 15% optimistic about the global situation.

The survey also revisited Canadians’ views on the Trudeau government’s handling of specific policy areas, noting a rise in negative impressions across sectors, particularly in housing, cost of living, and government finances since around the same time last year. This sentiment underscores a broader dissatisfaction with the government’s performance, despite minor improvements in approval ratings and Trudeau’s slightly less negative impression scores.

The margin of error was plus or minus 2.5%.
