Consulate General of India in Vancouver celebrates 132nd birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar

AS part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Consulate General of India in Vancouver celebrated the 132nd birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, outstanding intellectual, social reformer and political leader who headed the committee drafting the Constitution of India, at the Consulate General.

The event was attended by more than 60 members of Indian diaspora, members of Shri Guru Ravidass Sabha and Chetna Association of Canada, and media personalities.

Indian Consul General Manish and members of Indian diaspora paid floral tribute to Babasaheb Ambedkar.

Manish, Jai Birdi, General Secretary of Chetna Association of Canada, and Prof. Swaran Singh, visiting JNU Professor at University of Columbia, addressed the audience on the life and contribution of Dr. Ambedkar. A video film titled “Panchteertha”, on five places related to the life of Dr. Ambedkar, was screened during the event.

A souvenir entitled Dalit Emancipation on the forthcoming “Dr. Ambedkar International Symposium on Emancipation” (April 21-26) was also unveiled on the occasion by the organizers.
