Court extends Tarun Tejpal’s judicial custody till Feb 10

A judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) court, Panaji extended the judicial custody of Tehelka founder editor Tarun Tejpal, who is arrested by police in connection with the alleged sexual assault case, till February 10.

He was produced before the court by police on Tuesday and sought extension in the custody.Tejpal was arrested on November 30 and since then he is in custody.

A crime branch officer said that his judicial extension was sought as the investigating agency is yet to conclude investigation. “We need more time to complete the investigation,” said a crime branch official when asked for the reason for seeking remand.

The initial FIR against Tejpal was filed suo motto on November 22 , charging him under sections 354, 376 and 376 (2) (k) of IPC for alleged sexual harassment and rape. Later, the police added Section 341, Section 342, section 376 (2) (f) and section 376C of the IPC against him. He is being presently kept in Sada Sub-Jail, Vasco.
