Darshan Singh Gill Remembered In Surrey

A prominent progressive author and journalist, late Dr Darshan Gill was remembered in Surrey this past Sunday.
Dr. Gill died of cancer two years ago. He was the former Editor of “Canada Darpan”. He had also authored several books and hosted a literary program at Radio India.

Dr. Gill was critical of religious extremism and had faced many threats for opposing sectarianism during 1980s. A special event was held in his memory at the Punjabi Book Fair in Surrey on July 7. His wife Charanjit Kaur Gill released a novel, “Heer Vairagan” on the occasion. Authored by Shah Chaman, the novel was recently published by Chetna Parkashan, the organizer of the annual book fair. Among the prominent writers and poets who paid tributes to Dr. Gill on the occasion were Dr. Sadhu Singh, Manga Bassi, Jarnail Singh Sekha, Mohan Gill, Jagjit Sandhu, Bakhshinder, Dr. Gurminder Kaur, Surinderpal Kaur Brar, Dr. Sukhdev Sirsa, Dr. Baldev Singh Khaira, Harjit Daudhria, Devinder Punia, Jasbir Kaur Maan, Rupinder Rumi, Shahgir Gill, Krishan Bhanot, Rajwant Bagri, Angrez Brar, Charan Virdi, Satish Gulati, Balbir Singh Sangha, Iqbal Soomal, Surinder Sahota, Hari Singh Tatla, Nirmal Gill, Nadeem Parmar, Mohinder Soomal, Mota Singh, Prem Jethi, Inderjit Dhami, star radio host Harjinder Thind, Darshan Sangha and Harbhajan Hans.
