Driver speeding in bus lane in North Vancouver charged and fined $1,500 (with video)

A Vancouver driver plead guilty to careless driving in North Vancouver under the Motor Vehicle Act and was fined $1,500 with three penalty points added to their licence.

On October 6, 2023, a North Vancouver RCMP traffic officer was riding his police motorcycle and conducting enforcement in the 1300-block of Main Street in North Vancouver when at 7:20 p.m., a white Ford F-150 was seen speeding at a high rate of speed in a bus lane heading toward the Second Narrows Bridge. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was issued a fine for driving without due care and attention under the Motor Vehicle Act.

On February 14, 2024, the driver plead guilty to a careless driving offence under the Motor Vehicle Act at the North Vancouver Provincial Court and was fined $1,500 with three points added to their licence.

“The RCMP uses a number of different tools and types of vehicles to conduct traffic enforcement in high crash locations,” said Constable Mansoor Sahak, Media Relations Officer for North Vancouver RCMP, on Tuesday. “In this instance we received numerous complaints of drivers using the bus lane on Main Street to cut through traffic congestion and utilized a police motorcycle to conduct enforcement. A police motorcycle gives officers the ability to be more discreet and react quickly to any motorists contravening the Motor Vehicle Act.”

He said officers will continue to educate drivers through enforcement as part of the RCMP’s efforts to reduce traffic fatalities to make roads safer for everyone.
