ON October 5, 2018, Surrey RCMP responded to a residence near 161 Street and 110 Avenue and found 42-year-old Anida Magaya dead inside the home with significant injuries consistent with homicide. Her spouse, 47-year-old Rizig Bona, was arrested a short time later in connection with her death.

On October 19, 2018, Bona was charged with second-degree murder in Magaya’s homicide.

On January 18, 2021, Bona’s jury trial began in B.C. Supreme Court.

On March 3, the jury returned a verdict of guilty against Bona for second-degree murder.

“Anida Magaya’s murder is a tragic example of the extreme consequences of domestic violence,” said Sgt. Frank Jang of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT). “Investigating homicides is not only mentally but emotionally taxing and this case certainly was no exception.”

The next court date is set for March 5.
