Impairment suspected in early morning collision in Burnaby

BURNABY RCMP are seeking dash cam video and additional witnesses after an early morning collision on Sunday.

At 3:20 a.m., on October 22, Burnaby RCMP frontline officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles on Willingdon Avenue near Still Creek Drive.

It was reported that the driver of a black Mercedes with three occupants was driving northbound on Willingdon Avenue, while the driver of a red Hyundai SUV with two occupants was driving southbound when the collision occurred.

It is early in the investigation; however, impairment is suspected as a contributing factor, police said.

The driver of the Hyundai was transported to hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

“Often witnesses leave the scene of a collision without speaking to police. We are asking anyone who witnessed this incident and didn’t speak to police to please contact our investigators,” said Cpl. Mike Kalanj with Burnaby RCMP. “We would also like to hear from anyone that has dash cam video in the area leading up to and including the incident.”

Police are requesting anyone that witnessed the incident or may have dash cam video in the area of Willingdon Avenue and Still Creek Drive between 3 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. to contact Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999 and quote file number 2023-37078.
