THE Toronto Police Service announced the arrest of Kalyan Trivedi, 31, of Toronto in the October 3 fatal hit-and-run on Gardiner Expressway.
On Sunday, October 3 at 1:32 a.m., officers responded to a call for a collision in the Gardiner Expressway and Islington Avenue area. It was reported that a grey Nissan was travelling eastbound on the Gardiner Expressway and a white 2015 Audi R8 was also travelling eastbound at a high rate of speed. The Audi R8 struck the rear of the Grey Nissan and the impact pushed the Nissan into the median guard rail causing it to flip.
A 58-year-old woman was trapped inside the Nissan and was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. She succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased in hospital. The 61-year-old driver of the Nissan sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Audi fled the scene on foot.
On Thursday, October 21, Kalyan Trivedi, 31, of Toronto, was arrested.
He has been charged with:
1. Dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death
2. Dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm
3. Leave scene of accident causing death
4. Leave scene of accident causing bodily harm
Investigators are appealing to the public for information on the accused’s whereabouts in the hours leading up to the collision on October 3.
