New Westminster police arrest robbery suspect at drug store

ON Thursday at approximately 5 p.m., the New Westminster Police Department received a call from a staff member at a drug store near the New Westminster SkyTrain Station bus loop that they were witnessing a man, who claimed he had a gun, trying to access the cash register.

Police officers flooded the area and located a man matching the suspect description inside the drug store. The suspect was arrested without incident. No firearm was located. The police response temporarily closed the New Westminster SkyTrain Station bus loop.

“I want to remind all business owners and staff in New Westminster that if you ever feel unsafe, call 9-1-1 and we will be there,” said Sgt. Sanjay Kumar. “This staff member did the right thing, and we’re happy this was resolved quickly and safely.”

Police learned that the suspect was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for parole revocation. The suspect was transported to the New Westminster Police Department cells. The investigation is ongoing.
