ONTARIO: Dalwinder Singh sentenced in murder of his wife and mother-in-law

ON January 12, 2018, at 10:45 p.m., Peel Regional Police officers responded to a call at a residence on Starhill Crescent in the City of Brampton.  Two victims, 32-year-old Baljit Thandi and her mother, 60-year-old Avtar Kaur, were located inside the residence suffering from stab wounds. They died as a result of their injuries.

Dalwinder Singh, the husband of Baljit Thandi, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder. At the conclusion of the trial, Baljit Thandi was sentenced to two concurrent life sentences, with no chance of parole for 25 years.

“While a conviction brings the court process to a close, the loss of Baljit and Avtar will forever leave a void in the lives of their family and friends,” said Nick Milinovich, Deputy Chief of Investigative and Emergency Services. “Preventing violent crime and intimate partner violence is a focus for Peel Regional Police. We will be steadfast in our commitment to help victims of crime”.
