ONTARIO: Sahibdeep Singh, 19, and a 17-year-old of Brampton charged with robberies and carjackings

ONTARIO’S Peel Regional Police investigators from the Central Robbery Bureau, in partnership with York Regional Police, Ontario Provincial Police, and Toronto Police Service, have charged a 17-year-old male and 19-year old man with a series of retail robberies and carjacking robberies.

Between July 23 and August 4, five retail robberies occurred in the City of Brampton, including four carjacking robberies in Brampton, one retail robbery in the City of Toronto, one retail robbery in the Town of Caledon and one retail robbery in the City of Vaughan. During all the robberies, the suspects were armed with a knife and an imitation firearm.

After a thorough investigation, police identified and arrested two suspects on August 5.

A third suspect involved in two of these robberies is still outstanding. He is of an unknown race and between 5’8″and 5’10” in height.

Search warrants were conducted at two Brampton residences, where several offence-related property items were seized.

“Commercial robberies and carjacking’s are incredibly violent crimes which carry deep and long lasting impacts on those targeted by the accused,” said Nick Milinovich, Deputy Chief of Investigative and Emergency Services. “It is a priority for our service and community, which is now a safer place through our collective efforts to bring the two accused to justice. Together, we can ensure the third suspect is also held accountable.”

On Friday, August 6, investigators charged 19-year-old Sahibdeep Singh of Brampton with the following charges:

  • Robbery (12 counts)
  • Use imitation firearm (8 counts)
  • Disguise with intent (12 counts)
  • Aggravated assault (2 counts)
  • Fail to comply with release order

Singh was on a release order at the time of his arrest for separate robbery-related charges from 2020.

Investigators arrested and charged a 17-year-old youth of Brampton with the following charges:

  • Robbery (12 counts)
  • Use imitation firearm (8 counts)
  • Disguise with intent (12 counts)
  • Aggravated assault (2 counts)

This youth was also on robbery-related charges at the time of his arrest stemming from a robbery in April 2021.

Both charged parties were held pending a bail hearing and attended the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on August 6.

A general provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (Y.C.J.A.) prohibits the release of the name of a Young Person and, therefore, the identity of the Young Persons charged in this investigation is protected.
