Richmond RCMP launches Safe Exchange Zone

Chief Superintendent Dave Chauhan

RICHMOND RCMP announced on Friday the launch of the Safe Exchange initiative, a new program designed to provide a secure environment for our community to conduct online marketplace transactions.

This initiative comes in response to an increase in the number of criminal offences associated with online sales, including theft and fraud during in-person meet-ups.

Starting this weekend, there will be a dedicated inside space for buyers and sellers to meet and complete their peer-to-peer transactions in the lobby area of Richmond RCMP Detachment, 11411 No. 5 Road. The area will be equipped with clear signage and operate under the watchful eye of CCTV coverage.

Operational Hours:

Saturday, Sunday, and Statutory holidays: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“This initiative draws inspiration from successful similar programs across the country and is expected to significantly reduce the need for police intervention, allowing RCMP members to focus more on proactive crime reduction activities,” said Chief Superintendent Dave Chauhan, Officer-in-Charge, Richmond RCMP.

“Richmond RCMP is committed to the well-being of our community and encourages the use of the Safe Exchange zone to ensure a safe and secure environment for all online transactions.”
