Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke blocks Surrey Police Union on Twitter to escape reality!

WHAT respect can anyone have for a mayor who thinks she can run away from reality by blocking someone on her Twitter account?

As Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke and Surrey RCMP Assistant Commissioner Brian Edwards had a field day repeating their lies at Monday’s City Council meeting that 81 Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers have “indicated” that they will switch over to the RCMP, the Surrey Police Union (SPU) unleashed a barrage of facts pooh-poohing the claim on the mayor’s Twitter account.

Locke panicked and blocked the SPU account!

The mayor and the Surrey RCMP boss in their desperate attempt to hoodwink Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth and Surrey residents have resorted to the kind of low-level tactics that people and the media have come to expect from them. They continue to lose whatever little respect they have left.

The ineluctable fact remains that the RCMP cannot adequately staff their detachments across B.C. and all the smoke and mirrors of the mayor and Surrey RCMP cannot change that reality.

Here are THREE facts that will remain if the RCMP stays in Surrey:

1. The chief of police will still be appointed from Ottawa — not from Surrey. (Of course, the RCMP can always argue that the mayor has to agree to the appointment. But does the mayor really have a choice?)

2. There will be no board of police in Surrey to supervise the RCMP. Ottawa will still dictate matters.

3. All complaints against the RCMP will still go to Ottawa.

This is a total insult to the residents of Surrey. This colonial-era paramilitary force has NO place in Surrey — the only large city in Canada NOT to have its own police force!

And last but not least, the RCMP will always resort to lies and dirty tactics when it suits them, as The VOICE has been exposing them since the 1990’s:
