SURREY RCMP are seeking assistance from the public to identify a suspect in an arson.

On June 5 at approximately 12:45 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a fire at the front entrance of a building located in the 13900-block of 100 Avenue. Surrey Fire Service was also in attendance and quickly extinguished the fire. There was minimal damage and no injuries reported.

Police said it is clear that the fire was deliberately set, though the motive is unknown. The Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit have conduct of the ongoing investigation and are working closely with the Surrey RCMP Arson Coordinator.

The suspect — described as a white male wearing a grey hoodie with a green shirt underneath, grey shorts, and black shoes with low-cut socks, and carrying a dark backpack on his back — was seen running from the scene (see photos).

Police are asking anyone who was in the area and may have witnessed anything suspicious, or anyone who recognizes the man in the photo to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.

NOTE: Deployed Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers currently comprise over 25% of the Surrey RCMP’s total detachment strength, and 50% of its frontline officers. SPS already has 46% of the police officers currently required to police Surrey. More SPS officers are ready to be deployed but have been prevented from doing so because of politics by Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke and the Surrey RCMP without regard for safety of Surrey residents.
