Transport truck driver fled after hitting overpass in North Vancouver

NORTH Vancouver RCMP said on Wednesday that they are investigating a collision where a transport truck hit the Main Street overpass on Highway 1 in North Vancouver.

On Tuesday, September 19 at approximately 7 p.m., police were alerted of a collision on the highway. Officers learned that the driver had fled the scene of the accident after hitting the overpass.

“At this point the driver is still outstanding and his identity remains unknown,” said Constable Mansoor Sahak. “Police have followed up with the owner of the transport truck and have issued them a violation ticket for ‘fail to remain’ at the scene of accident.”

Due to concerns about the structural integrity of the overpass, the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 were temporarily closed to traffic, which caused significant traffic delays for the evening commuters. Engineers subsequently deemed the overpass to be structurally safe, and the crash was cleared. Just before 3:30 a.m., the highway was once again opened to traffic.”

The North Vancouver RCMP are working in conjunction with Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) to investigate the incident.
