Vancouver Christmas Market returns

AFTER a one-year hiatus, the Vancouver Christmas Market returns home to Jack Poole Plaza (downtown Vancouver at the Olympic Cauldron), lighting up the holiday season with an expanded six-week schedule from November 13 to December 24.  Now in its 11th year, the German-inspired market is both the longest-running and largest Christmas Market – and the only European Christmas Market – in Vancouver.

“We have really worked to bring a traditional German Christmas Market to Vancouver,” said Malte Kluetz, CEO and Founder of the Vancouver Christmas Market. “Each year, we add new elements and experiences to make the market a more enjoyable meeting space for friends and family members alike. From sparkling photo opportunities to festive spots to enjoy a drink, there’s something for everybody at the Vancouver Christmas Market.”

The 2021 Vancouver Christmas Market features many new upgrades for the extended season, including an expanded Alpine Lounge space. Doubled to roughly 3,800 square feet, the bierhall-style area now ensures more distance between visitors and more coverage from unfavourable weather conditions for a safer and more comfortable market experience.

To help spread the cheer, a favourite Market tradition is back this year – absolutely free. All are invited to ride the Holidaylife Carousel presented by Interac free of charge, with an option to keep the holiday spirit going by making a donation using Interac Debit contactless payments to Make-A-Wish Canada. It’s a gift that keeps on giving…round after round.

Also new for this year, the 2021 Vancouver Christmas Market’s Gourmetstrasse sees a dedicated street selling packaged gourmet foods from around the world. Gourmetstrasse offerings include food to eat on-site as well as pre-packaged gourmet foods that guests can enjoy in the comfort of their own homes.

You can feast on festive Old World treats at the Vancouver Christmas Market. This year sees a signature array of German beer, Glühwein (hot-spiced mulled wine), and delicacies both savoury and sweet to warm your belly and your heart.

The market has added more than 30 new vendors from far and wide for visitors to enjoy, with many of the latest huts showcased in the new Gourmetstrasse.

New vendors for 2021 include:

· Mukasi Coffee Roasters

· Gingeraki

· THOSE Pretzels

· Vancouver Flurer Smokery

· DaBomb Goodies

· Perfectly Nuts

· Slow Bottled Sunday

· German Bread Made by You

· The Licorice Parlour

· Das Fisch Haus

· TripPoster Design Inc

· Wild Abandon Jewelry

Featuring live entertainment and music, the Vancouver Christmas Market offers a variety of local entertainers performing from the Flying Stage on the second storey of the Christmas Pyramid.

COVID-19 Safety Guidelines:

Also new to this season, the Vancouver Christmas Market offers an online reservation system where visitors book a 30-minute arrival timeslot (but can stay for as long as they like). The reservation system allows guests to reserve a guaranteed entry time that manages visitor flow for a more enjoyable on-site experience.

“We heard from many of you that you missed the Vancouver Christmas Market last year,” said Denise Wegener, President of the Vancouver Christmas Market. “And we sure missed you, too. We have added many different elements to make this a safe and festive holiday event for friends and family to meet – from an online booking system to manage arrivals and our adherence to COVID-19 guidelines with the Vancouver Convention Centre. We’re so looking forward to having you all at our market again.”

Beginning opening day of the Vancouver Christmas Market, all guests, vendors and employees must be fully vaccinated, and show proof of vaccination along with valid government identification if born in 2009 or earlier to access the Market.
