Vancouver Police release photo of man wanted in stranger attack on East Asian woman

Mohammed Majidpour

A Vancouver Police investigation, using tips from the public, has led to charges against 35-year-old Mohammed Majidpour for his alleged attack on a woman on September 27. He is now wanted Canada-wide for assault with a weapon.

(Incidentally, a man with the same name was charged in a stalking case in April 2021. Vancouver Police began investigating after a woman posted a video to social media and reported to police that she had been followed by a man while walking in Vancouver on March 17. The man was charged with one count of criminal harassment in relation to that incident. He was also charged for five other, separate incidents that included criminal harassment, mischief, break-and-enter, assault with a weapon, and uttering threats.)

At 9:50 a.m. on Tuesday, September 27, a 19-year-old East Asian woman was walking downtown near Dunsmuir and Cambie streets when a man she didn’t know hit her over the back of the head with a pole. The suspect used a racial slur, then fled the area as he continued making offensive comments.

“Although there were other people walking in the block at the time of assault, they couldn’t have prevented the attack because it was so sudden,” Constable Jason Doucette said last week. “Witnesses called 9-1-1, provided information about the suspect, and stayed with the victim until first responders arrived.”

The victim was injured and required medical attention, however the injuries were not life-threatening.

Several officers flooded the area in search of the suspect, however, he wasn’t located.

“Now that Majidpour has a warrant for his arrest, our next goal is to get him back into custody as soon as possible,” said Doucette on Wednesday. “We are asking the public to have a good look at his photo and to call 9-1-1 if they spot him.”

Majidpour is described as approximately 5’7” tall, 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He is often unshaven.

Anyone who sees Mohammed Majidpour, or has information about his whereabouts, is asked to call 911 and not approach him.
