LAST Saturday (July 28), a group of young volunteers got together for a good cause, as they organized a fun raffle event for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation at Surrey’s Miri Piri Nagar Kirtan (Sikh parade). The group, called Lifestream BC, is a non-profit organization run completely by all university and high school students with an aim to raise awareness for childhood diseases. At this Sikh parade, they managed to collect over five hundred dollars in donations and awarded two drones to the winners of their draw.

The co-founders and presidents of Lifestream BC, Karanvir Gill and Mahtab Gill, are two highly motivated individuals with high hopes to contribute to helping out children battling illness and also give the youth a sense of altruism by providing means to volunteer within their community. This summer alone, Karanvir and Mahtab have organized over 15 blood donor recruitment and various fundraiser booths throughout multiple community events occurring in the Greater Vancouver area. These events include Canada Day by the Bay and RBC Race for the Kids. They have been accompanied by their amazing group of over 15 volunteers currently, and are hoping to recruit more volunteers to help out with their cause going forward.

“BC Children’s Hospital is the only hospital in the province devoted exclusively to the care of children, and is one of the few pediatric medical and teaching facilities in North America with an acute care centre, a research institute, a mental health facility and, soon, a rehabilitation centre all on a single campus.” The money raised from the Miri Piri Nagar Kirtan raffle draw will support the most urgent needs BC Children’s Hospital, providing kids across the province with the best health care imaginable.
