THE Surrey RCMP North Community Response Unit (CRU) conducted a one-day project of boost and bust last Monday at Guildford Town Centre and arrested 25 individuals for shoplifting.
On October 21, Surrey RCMP North CRU and Delta Police Department’s Patrol Support Team conducted a one-day operation in the Guildford Town Centre to tackle shoplifting.
The mall security and nine retail locations (including loss prevention specialists from the U.S.) participated in the project. The project led to the arrest of 25 individuals for shoplifting. The following charges were recommended:
- 17 charges including theft Under $5,000
- Possess identity documents
- Failure to comply with probation
Investigators executed three warrants and one individual was held in custody for breaching probation conditions. Three weapons, including knives and pepper spray, were seized. In total, police recovered over $6,500 in stolen merchandise.
“We will continue to ensure our retail spaces in Surrey are safe to work, visit, and shop,” says Staff-Sgt. Nigel Pronger. “As the busy holiday shopping season approaches, police will have a robust presence in and around our shopping centers in both uniform and covert operations. Those who choose to commit crime, face a real risk of arrest and the subsequent legal consequences of their actions.”
