ON Sunday, February 15 at approximately 1:45 p.m., the New Westminster Police Department received a 9-1-1 call from a good Samaritan who was providing aid to an elderly woman. According to the caller, the woman was in distress and in need of police assistance.
Police attended the 1200-block of Dan Lee Avenue and learned from the 90-year-old victim that she was walking in the area when a stranger approached her. The man pulled jewelry off her arm, causing her injury before pushing her to the ground. Police provided the woman support and canvassed the area for CCTV footage of the incident.
CBC reported that Sukh Sadhre said his mother was taking a routine walk down her street in the Queensborough neighbourhood when she was attacked.
A video posted on X shows the brave woman fighting back, hitting the man with her walking stick, but, of course, the brazen robber overpowers her.
“Watching the CCTV footage was deeply disturbing,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “A grown man used his strength and size against a 90-year-old woman. That is disgraceful and cowardly behaviour.”

The suspect is described as a 5’11” tall man with a heavy set build, weighing approximately 260 pounds, wearing a beige hooded sweater, grey pants, black shoes with white soles, and a surgical mask.

If you witnessed this incident, and have not yet shared with police what you saw, you are requested to call 604-525-5411 and reference file 26-2730.
