Link Gaetz, 57, of Mission charged in last September’s assault on taxi driver in Maple Ridge

MAPLE Ridge RCMP announced on Thursday that charges have now been laid against the suspect involved in an unprovoked assault on a taxi driver that occurred in Maple Ridge back on September 17, 2025.

Link Gaetz, 57, from Mission has now been charged with assault, and mischief under $5,000.

Maple Ridge RCMP said they appreciated the public’s assistance in helping identify the alleged suspect.

Gaetz now has an outstanding arrest warrant for these charges and police are asking for the public’s further assistance in locating him.

He is described as:

  • White male
  • 57 years old
  • 6’4” (193 cm)
  • 252 lbs (114 kg)
  • Blond hair
  • Blue eyes

On September 17, 2025, at approximately 2:45 p.m. Ridge Meadows RCMP received reports of a taxi driver being assaulted near the intersection of Sheldrake Court and Fern Crescent in Maple Ridge.

Officers learned that the driver had picked up the suspect at an establishment in the 12900 block of 232nd Street. The driver was then directed to the location before the suspect abruptly told the driver to stop and immediately began assaulting him. The victim received injuries to his face due to multiple punches being thrown at him. In the process, the suspect also attempted to break the CCTV camera in the taxi and proceeded to break the vehicle’s windshield before fleeing the area.

Officers immediately attended and patrolled the area but were unable to locate the alleged suspect. Additional support was also provided by Integrated Police Dog Services and Air Services. Further follow-up was completed including canvassing for additional witnesses and video surveillance. The victim was also offered Victim Services assistance.

Police released video surveillance photos to the public in the hopes of gathering more information and possibly identifying the suspect.
