ON Saturday, at approximately 4:15 a.m., Vancouver Police Department (VPD) officers responded to an emergency call from an on-duty security guard at a parkade near Cambie and Dunsmuir Street.

The uniformed guard was conducting routine patrols when he discovered a man sleeping inside the parkade. When asked to leave, the suspect allegedly produced a short metal rod and began swinging it at the guard and damaged the guard’s vehicle.  The suspect then chased after the guard on a bicycle.  

A VPD officer located a man matching the description of the suspect minutes later in a separate underground parkade near Cambie and West Georgia Street. He was arrested without incident.

Clifford Carreon, a 41-year-old resident of Surrey, has been charged with assault with a weapon and mischief under $5,000.

Carreon was transported to jail and remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
