SOURCES have confirmed to The VOICE that Vancouver Police this morning arrested well-known VPD officer Kal Dosanjh.

Vancouver Police will hold a press conference about the arrest on Friday morning. They are tight-lipped about the reason for the arrest.

Some Vancouver Police and Surrey Police officers would only say that “an individual” was arrested in Surrey by Vancouver Police.

The Vancouver Police Department announced at 3:30 p.m. that it is holding a news conference to announce charges in a 2.5-year covert investigation, led by Superintendent Mike Ritchie.

Members of the media will have the opportunity to hear from Chief Steve Rai and Superintendent Mike Ritchie on Friday at 10 a.m.

According to Court Services Online, Dosanjh and Sarabjit Singh Gill have been charged with three counts of “fraud over $5,000” and three counts of “theft over $5,000.” The date of the offences is January 13, 2017.

Dosanjh is charged with an additional count of “fraud over $5,000,” another count of “theft over $5,000” and one count of “breach of trust by public officer.” The date of these offences is December 8, 2017.

These are allegations that have yet to be proved in court.

CBC News reports that Alliance Lawyers in Langley, representing Dosanjh, sent them a statement saying it was “inappropriate to draw conclusions” based on the reported arrest of their client “Mr. Dosanjh has committed no crime and is innocent of any wrongdoing. An arrest, or a report that an arrest has occurred, is not evidence of guilt, misconduct, or criminal responsibility.”

CBC News reported that according to the document sworn on Thursday, multiple charges relate to alleged fraud and stealing from investors of multiple property development projects, including the Azura, Queen’s Park and Sahara development projects.

“According to B.C. Supreme Court documents, the two men are listed as partners in multiple property development ventures, which have been the subject of multiple civil lawsuits. The two have denied all wrongdoing in those cases,” CBC News said.

“Dosanjh also faces two charges alleging he committed fraud over $5,000 and stole from the KidsPlay Youth Foundation, the charity that he founded in 2015,” CBC News added.

ACCORDING to KidsPlay Foundation, its founder Kal (Kalwinder) Dosanjh “is a veteran police officer with over 24 years of law enforcement service. He served the majority of his operational time as a Beat Patrol Officer in one of the most challenging and violent environments found in North America, the Downtown Eastside. He also served in the Investigative Division as a Detective. During his time in patrol he was also deployed to various districts. He served in various capacities and positions. His positions have included: undercover operator (high profile cases), firearms interdiction team, public safety unit, traffic section, operations command centre, financial crime unit, domestic violence unit and drug unit.

“Under his command, he has led multiple large-scale investigations and projects, which have resulted in making a significant impact on reduction of organized crime activities in the Downtown Eastside. The types of calls he has been involved with have included drug trafficking, weapons calls, homicides, robberies, and serious assaults. In addition to that, he was dealing with violent drug dealers, gang members and individuals suffering from mental health issues. The dangerous environment, the open air drug market and the constant exposure to extreme risk, was the premise behind the hit reality series, The BEAT, on the Outdoor Life Network, which showed Kal in action on the streets. On account of his work, he has received several commendations. His work in the Downtown Eastside, and the steady proliferation of youth entering the open air drug market, became the basis for ratifying and implementing programs for youth under the umbrella of the police athletic league. The programs focused on providing youth constructive outlets through the portal of sports and education, as a deterrent to a lifestyle of drugs, gangs and crime.

“His work in the Downtown Eastside, combined with personal observations of marginalized youth representing a greater percentage involved in a lifestyle of drugs, gangs and crime, made him realize that this was symptomatic of a vacuum of quality programs which could “turn the tide” by utilizing early prevention methodology in order to deter youth away from a criminal lifestyle. Kal’s vision is to create young leaders within the community through involvement in sports and other recreational activities. His primary focus is to provide underprivileged youth from vulnerable populations, with opportunities that will allow them to excel in all aspects of life. Recognizing the inherent value in providing sports and educational programs to youth in order to instill strong fundamental habits and qualities, Kal created Kids Play Youth Foundation, a registered charity, predicated on providing youth with free high quality youth programs in a concerted effort with partnering agencies. Kal serves as the CEO of Kids Play in a volunteer capacity, in addition to still serving as an active duty law enforcement officer.

“Since its inception in 2015, under Kal’s leadership, KidsPlay Youth Foundation’s scope of operations have expanded across Canada, and around the world.”
