A third person has died in Sunday’s two-vehicle collision in Surrey

SURREY RCMP announced on Tuesday that a third person had died in last Sunday’s collision in South Surrey.

On June 25 at approximately 2:45 a.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision in the 3300-block of 176 Street. A Volkswagen Golf with a single occupant was northbound on 176 Street past 32 Avenue, when it collided with a Hyundai sedan with a driver and three passengers, that was also northbound. Both vehicles were knocked off the roadway into a water-filled ditch on the east side of the roadway.

Despite immediate life-saving efforts from numerous first responders on scene, two people from the Hyundai died of their injuries and one other was transported to hospital in a critical condition. The fourth occupant of the Hyundai suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

On Monday afternoon, the occupant of the Hyundai who had been in a critical condition succumbed to their injuries.

The driver of the Volkswagen was initially detained for an impaired driving investigation, and has since been served documents prohibiting him from driving and released pending further investigation.

Police said they will be looking at all the circumstances of this collision. At this time, speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors in this collision.

“The Surrey RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team is actively working to gather crucial evidence and piece together what led to this tragic collision that has now claimed three lives,” said Media Relations Officer Cpl. Vanessa Munn. “Investigations of this nature are complex and can take time to complete, but our officers are committed to conducting a thorough investigation and providing the families who lost loved ones with answers about what transpired.”
