Abbotsford Police officers did not commit any offence in December 2024 arrest

THE Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC announced on Tuesday that it had completed its investigation into the injury of a man while being arrested in Abbotsford last December.

At about 8:10 p.m. on December 26, 2024, officers with the Abbotsford Police Department responded to calls regarding an alleged domestic dispute involving a man and woman. A caller said that the man and woman had gone into an apartment building located in the 2000-block of Eleanor Avenue, and it was learned a short time later that they had gone to separate units.

The man attempted to leave when police tried to speak to him, and he was arrested. The man sustained a serious but not life-threatening injury while being taken into custody.

The IIO said the chief civilian director had now reviewed the evidence – including witness statements, medical evidence, video recordings, and police records – and determined that there were no reasonable grounds to believe that any officer may have committed an offence.

The IIO investigation is now concluded. Due to concurrent court proceedings, the IIO’s public report will not be released on the IIO’s website until that process has concluded.
