Abbotsford Police respond to South Asian female in distress (update)

ON Sunday, August 3 at approximately 9:13 p.m., Abbotsford Police patrol officers responded to a report of a female screaming in the parking lot of Cabela’s, located at 1818 McCallum Road.

The female was observed attempting to distance herself from a male operating a green Ford truck, possibly a Ford Lightning.

Officers conducted extensive patrols of the surrounding area; however, the vehicle had already left prior to police attendance.

On Monday, August 4, investigators obtained CCTV footage from the area that captured the incident. Despite exhaustive efforts to identify the individuals involved, police were not successful.

Out of concern for the wellbeing of the female, investigators released the CCTV footage to the public and appealed for assistance in identifying the vehicle and the individuals involved.

Shortly after 11 p.m. on Monday, Abbotsford Police patrol officers successfully identified the female involved in this incident.

“She is safe and currently speaking with investigators,” police said on Tuesday morning.

The Abbotsford Police Department thanked the public and media for their assistance in this investigation. It said that at this time, no further public assistance is required. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
