Each year, throughout Asian Heritage Month, TD takes the opportunity to increase its understanding and appreciation of the richness of Asian cultures.
With the month of May now underway, TD reached out to colleagues from across the Bank to find out how they define a culture of inclusion and what their experience has looked like over the years.

“To me, inclusion means being recognized and valued for who I am”
“To me, inclusion means being recognized and valued for who I am without having to compromise any part of my identity. TD has enabled me to leverage my South Asian background to help create and manage products and experiences that resonate with newcomers, making every day a celebration of diverse perspectives and extending that feeling of belonging to our colleagues and customers.
My lived experiences, and those of my family, help me advocate for culturally relevant solutions, foster inclusive conversations, and create a sense of belonging for my team, my TD colleagues and our customers.”

“I’ve been given opportunities to showcase how the Bank values diverse voices.”
“I feel like I experience the true meaning of inclusion when I can bring my best self to work every day, and when I’m given the opportunity to contribute and make an impact. In my 18 years with TD, I’ve been given opportunities to showcase how the Bank values diverse voices within my community.
I’m proud that I can use my knowledge of common languages spoken in many South Asian homes to help me better connect with our customers of various backgrounds, allowing them to feel welcome and heard.”

“One thing I truly appreciate is how diverse our workforce is at TD.”
“I believe inclusion is about ensuring that everyone at the table has an equal voice. At TD, I’ve seen leaders take time to learn about—and embrace—other cultures. I love seeing our leaders show up at various TD cultural events, trying new foods, or even our traditional dance routines. I’ve also been encouraged to share details about my cultural background and experiences.
One thing I truly appreciate is how diverse our workforce is at TD. Some colleagues were born and raised in Canada, and some are recent immigrants. Having such a wide variety of experiences only enhances our overall team.”

“To me, inclusion isn’t a checkbox—it’s a mindset.”
“At TD, I feel valued for my unique perspective. Our culture encourages diverse voices and supports career growth. Over the years, I’ve been empowered to contribute meaningfully just by being myself—something that’s made all the difference in how I connect with both colleagues and clients.
My South Asian heritage has shaped my values around trust, respect, and building lasting relationships. Growing up in a culture where community and connection are deeply rooted, I’ve learned the importance of listening closely, understanding diverse perspectives, and showing up with empathy.
Professionally, this has helped me relate to clients with different cultural backgrounds and tailor advice in a way that respects unique values and goals. To me, inclusion isn’t a checkbox—it’s a mindset.”

“I feel encouraged at work to share details about my cultural heritage and lived experiences.”
“I feel encouraged at work to share details about my cultural heritage and lived experiences. My leaders and colleagues show interest in my cultural background and have created a safe and welcoming environment. I’m proud to be a co-chair of the TD South Asian Employee Resource Group (ERG), where I’ve had the opportunity to help showcase and celebrate our cultural heritage over the past 15 years. We run networking and mentoring events and programs to help colleagues learn from other South Asian leaders.
Through the ERG, I’ve been able to really own my lived experiences and can see how they’ve benefited my career.”

“I love that TD celebrates and supports other cultures”
“Inclusion and a sense of belonging means being accepted for who I am no matter my cultural background. It’s where I can be my authentic self. Living and working in a diverse community with a large South Asian population allows me to develop a deeper understanding of the clients and colleagues I work with every day.
I love that TD celebrates and supports other cultures through events that I’ve been able to participate in and enjoy. I feel included here and love that TD celebrates and recognizes my South Asian heritage.”
During this month-long celebration, TD celebrates the long and rich history of Asian Canadians, while also acknowledging their many contributions to Canadian society on an economic, social and cultural level.
Happy Asian Heritage Month!
