Burnaby homicide victim identified (update)

THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said on Wednesday that Tuesday’s Burnaby homicide victim has been identified by investigators, but is not being named at this time to allow proper notification to the family.

On September 13, at 11:08 p.m., Burnaby RCMP responded to a report of a shooting in the 4700-block of Hastings Street in Burnaby. Frontline officers located a man deceased as a result of gunshot wounds.

Shortly after, a burning vehicle was located in the 8200-block of Burnlake Road, Burnaby.

IHIT has taken conduct of the investigation and is working closely in partnership with Burnaby RCMP, BC Coroners Service, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia (CFSEU-BC) and the Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS).

“Investigators are in the area looking for witnesses and collecting CCTV,” said IHIT Sgt. Timothy Pierotti. “We’re working closely with our partners to determine if this incident has any connection to the Lower Mainland Gang Conflict.”

IHIT is asking any witnesses or anyone who was in the 4700-block of Hastings Street or the 8200-block of Burnlake Road between 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. with dash-camera video to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
