Chad Colivas’ homicide in Abbotsford not connected to gang conflict

THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) on Tuesday said that Monday’s homicide victim in Abbotsford was 41-year-old Chad Colivas.

“We are in the infancy stages of our investigation; however, the early indications suggest that Mr. Colivas’ death is not associated to the Lower Mainland Gang Conflict,” said IHIT spokesperson Detective Corporal Sukhi Dhesi. “These are complex files and we urge anyone with information to come forward to assist us in gathering answers for Mr. Colivas’ family.”

Dhesi said IHIT wants to speak to Colivas’ friends and associates in an effort to build a timeline of his activities in the days leading up to his death.

On March 21 at approximately 9:52 p.m., the Abbotsford Police Department received a report of a male shot in the lower level of a family home located in the 3500-block of Latimer Street.

Abbotsford Police Department frontline officers and BC Emergency Health Services (EHS) attended and located a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite all efforts to revive the victim, he succumbed to his injuries.

IHIT said it is in the early stages of the investigation and its investigators are working tirelessly to complete priority tasks. It is working closely with the Abbotsford Police Department and BC Coroners Service.

IHIT investigators are asking for any witnesses, dashcam or CCTV footage from the area of 3500-block of Latimer Street from Monday, March 21 between 9:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.
