Complete shutdown of CMBC bus and SeaBus services

THE strike by Coast Mountain Bus Company’s union has resulted in a complete shutdown of CMBC bus and SeaBus services. These services are expected to resume on Wednesday, January 24.

The CMBC said that customers should arrange alternate travel plans if they typically rely on bus and SeaBus to get around.

SkyTrain (Expo, Canada Line and Millennium Line), West Coast Express, HandyDART, West Vancouver Blue Bus, Bowen Island Community Shuttles, and Langley Community Shuttles will not be affected and are expected to continue to operate.

Customers are advised to stay informed and check their route before heading out the door by signing up for Transit Alerts, consulting Trip Planner, following @TransLink on X (Twitter) or by calling the Customer Information Desk at 604.953.3333, translation services are available in over 300 languages.

TransLink will communicate impacts to service as they are known, and customers should sign up for Transit Alerts for specific information about their route.

The CMBC said in a statement: “Despite our best efforts to reach a compromise with CUPE Local 4500, the union representing supervisors at CMBC has refused to adjust its demand for wage increases that are more than the wage increases accepted by all other unions at CMBC and countless other public sector employees.

“Over the weekend, Coast Mountain Bus Company (CMBC) joined a mediator in an effort to reach an agreement with CUPE Local 4500. CMBC offered increased overtime pay, improved benefits, and committed to hiring more supervisors.

“Unfortunately, the union again refused the improved offer. This is unacceptable and unreasonable.

“Disruption to customers could end immediately if the union accepted the reasonable offer that is on the table.

“We remain willing to join the union at the table and urge them to accept this reasonable offer.”
