Driver dies on scene after vehicle hits power pole in Surrey

SURREY Police Service, the RCMP Surrey Police Operations Support Unit’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team (SPOSU CCIT), and Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) are investigating a single vehicle collision on Monday night that has resulted in one fatality.

At approximately 10:50 p.m. on February 10, Surrey Police Service received reports of a single vehicle that was travelling westbound in the 12300-block 104 Avenue hitting a power pole. SPS frontline officers attended and despite life-saving medical intervention by Surrey Fire Service and BCEHS, the driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, died on scene.

The SPOSU CCIT and ICARS were called in to assist and the cause of the collision remains under investigation, but at this early stage the speed of the vehicle is thought to be the primary contributing factor.

Police said that 104 Avenue was closed overnight due to the collision and BC Hydro fixing the power pole and associated wires.
