OBNES Regis on Friday entered a guilty plea in the 2021 death of his wife, Naomi Onotera.

On August 29, 2021, Onotera’s family reported her missing from her home in Langley. She was a kindergarten teacher of Langley and mother of a two-year-old girl. What began as a missing person investigation led by the Langley RCMP, was later turned over to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) after evidence was located that led investigators to believe Onotera had been met with foul play. IHIT continued the investigation for approximately three months utilizing several different specialized units from the BC RCMP as they progressed the investigation.

On December 17, 2021, homicide investigators arrested 49-year-old Regis, who was subsequently charged with manslaughter and indignity to human remains.

On May 31, 2024, Regis appeared in court, where he entered a plea of guilty to both charges. Sentencing in the matter is scheduled for June.

As this matter remains before the courts, IHIT said it will not be providing comment at this time.
