Gurjot Singh Bhatti arrested by Surrey RCMP on charges relating to stolen vehicle

ON June 11, at approximately 6 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a stolen vehicle.

The Surrey RCMP Gang Enforcement Team (SGET) took conduct of the investigation and tracked the vehicle from Surrey to Richmond. The SGET officers initially located both the vehicle and driver in Surrey, and as officers gave arrest commands, the driver reportedly fled in the vehicle.

The vehicle was later located abandoned in Richmond, and the driver was arrested nearby with the assistance of the Richmond RCMP Gang Enforcement Team (RGET) and the Vancouver Police Department Gang Crime Unit (GCU). The driver was identified as 20-year-old Gurjot Singh Bhatti.

Bhatti has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, flight from police, and driving while disqualified.

Bhatti remains in custody until his next appearance in court. As this matter is now before the court, police said no further details would be provided.

“This was a multi-jurisdictional incident and highlights the coordination and collaboration of partner agencies to apprehend this individual,” said Cpl. James Mason, Surrey RCMP Media Relations Officer, on Monday.
