IHIT deployed after 24-year-old man arrives at Surrey hospital with critical injuries

SURREY RCMP said on Friday morning that the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called in after police were called to attend an area hospital for a report of a man suffering gunshot wounds.

Due to the serious nature of his injuries, the 24-year-old man is not expected to survive.

(On Thursday, a male was shot in Surrey at about 10 p.m. and another male was shot in Delta at about 11 p.m., and a 25-year-old male was shot in Surrey on Wednesday at about 5 p.m.)

Initial information to police indicated the shooting took place in Whalley, though that has not yet been confirmed. At this time, investigators are still actively working to determine the exact location where the shooting occurred.

IHIT will be working in partnership with the Surrey RCMP. Investigators are working to identify a motive and are working with partners to determine if there are links to the drug trade and the ongoing gang conflict.

Police are currently in the evidence gathering phase.
