THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) identified the victim of the fatal stabbing in Surrey on Tuesday night as 47-year-old Jason Richard Gill of Surrey in hopes of advancing the investigation.
On July 23 at approximately 11:50 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a complaint of a fight in the 6600-block of King George Boulevard. First responders located a man suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite life-saving efforts of both police and British Columbia Emergency Health Services (BC EHS), the man succumbed to his injuries on scene. Witnesses reported seeing a suspect male fleeing the scene.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took conduct of the investigation and is working in partnership with BC Coroners Service, Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) and Surrey RCMP. From the early stages of the investigation, this incident is not believed to be linked to the BC Gang Conflict.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the two individuals had an altercation that resulted in the victim being fatally stabbed. It not known if the two parties were known to each other or what was the motivation for this tragic incident.
The suspect seen fleeing the area is described as a white male, six feet tall, clean shaven with short, sandy-colored blonde hair.
“We are in the early stages of the investigation, and investigators are working to determine the motive,” said IHIT Cpl. Esther Tupper. “If you saw a male matching the suspect description in the area around the time of the homicide, please contact IHIT immediately.”
IHIT is seeking witnesses, dash camera or surveillance video in the area of the 6600-block of King George Boulevard between 11 p.m. on July 23 and 3 a.m. on July 24.
