Invest Vancouver welcomes Nutanix’s expansion

INVEST Vancouver, Metro Vancouver’s regional economic development service, says it welcomes Nutanix, a US-based technology company and global leader in hybrid multicloud computing, to the region. This expansion will support the development of the next generation of Nutanix’s platform, including its Nutanix Agentic AI offering, with the company planning a significant multi-year hiring investment in the region.

Nutanix estimates that the Vancouver location could employ hundreds, many in high-paying positions.

“Vancouver is where we are building our centre of excellence for Nutanix Agentic AI, and we are making a long-term commitment to the region and to the talent here,” said Anurag Narula, Nutanix, Vice President, Engineering and Site Executive Sponsor.

Nutanix chose the Metro Vancouver region for its highly specialized talent in infrastructure, cloud, and distributed systems engineering. The Vancouver site will host engineering teams working across software-defined networking, hybrid cloud management, and Nutanix Agentic AI, the company’s infrastructure platform for enterprise AI workloads, used by customers worldwide.

Committed partners, the City of Vancouver began the discussions and quickly brought in Invest Vancouver to support Nutanix’s multi-year investment decision.

“Nutanix’s decision is a strong vote of confidence in Vancouver’s growing technology sector,” said Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim. “This investment in our downtown core will create meaningful opportunities for local graduates and strengthen our position as a global hub for innovation. We’re proud to see companies choosing Vancouver to build the technologies shaping the future.”

“Our region continues to emerge as a globally competitive hub of tech innovation,” added Mike Hurley, Board Chair of Metro Vancouver. “With world‑class talent and strong support for business growth, we’re building an ecosystem that enables innovators like Nutanix to succeed here.”

The leaders working from the Nutanix Vancouver site have been selected specifically to drive product ownership and influence roadmap decisions from day one. Engineers here will own product and technology, not just execute against a plan set elsewhere.  For Nutanix, Vancouver is not a trend play. It is a deliberate investment in a market where serious AI engineering talent has been building for a generation.

The Metro Vancouver region is the fifth fastest growing tech market in North America, outpacing major tech hubs in the United States. Since 2019, the region’s technology workforce has expanded by 84 per cent, reaching nearly 48,000 software developers, engineers, designers, and programmers by the end of 2025.

Global interest in opportunities the Metro Vancouver region offers is growing, especially among companies focused on AI, cybersecurity, fintech, and digital health. This high-tech innovation cluster positions the Metro Vancouver region as a multi-sector powerhouse for investment.

Nutanix is building relationships with the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, and the University of Waterloo, which are among Canada’s leading post-secondary institutions in computer science and engineering. Their programs will offer co-op and internship opportunities to give students real-world experience alongside experienced professionals from day one.

“The Metro Vancouver region has the talent pipeline that global companies need and the quality of life people strive for. Our region’s strengths in the tech sector have been gaining global attention in recent years, and more international companies are taking the next step to be a part of one of North America’s fastest growing tech hubs,” said Linda Buchanan, Chair of the Invest Vancouver Management Board.
