A sleek, luxury midsize sports sedan, the Jaguar XF is the first Jag to be offered with a diesel powertrain in Canada. The new 2017 Jaguar XF 20d comes with an “Ingenium” 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel unit producing 318 lb-ft of torque. – And 180 horsepower. Jaguar says its 20d diesel is a 44% improvement over the gasoline V6. This second generation XF is a striking, yet contemporary looking car with its sleek aerodynamic profile and distinctive rear taillights. It looks every inch how a thoroughbred Jaguar ought to look like. For 2017, all XF models have the eight-speed automatic transmission and optional all-wheel drive.
The interior is also high quality with Jaguars attention to detail being top class. There is an upscale look to the cabin with unique looking textured gray metal and gray wood trim on our 20d. The seats are super comfortable and the cabin is actually roomier with an extra 15 millimeters of leg room and 24 mm of knee room. The cabin is indeed a study in a great design with high quality stitched leather, nicely detailed trim and all the modern conveniences and luxury power accessories as needed. All done in a unique distinctive style that so differentiates Jaguars from the competition. Moving to the rear, the back bench seat features a versatile 40/20/40 split, for long items such as skis. The trunk is also larger with room for at least four golf bags.
On the road, the XF we tested does betray its diesel engine with some minor diesel chatter, but it is fairly muted and not annoying. Unlike the gas engined versions, performance is milder and less intense as the more powerful siblings. With a 0-100 km/h dash in about 8.4 seconds, the diesel DX offers outstanding fuel economy, and a huge mileage range to offset the slight decrease in acceleration times. Still, the Ingenium engine offers an auto start/ off function to cut off engine power during idling. And let’s not forget diesel is still the cheaper alternative to regular gasoline. With an excellent chassis tuning, light weight, and the XFs wonderfully precise steering. The Jaguar proves a delight to drive. Fuel consumption is impressively miserly rated, (City / Highway / Combined) L/100km: 7.8 / 5.8 / 6.9. The XF is a wonderful alternative to the European (Read German) competition. It looks unique, stands out and is a thoroughly modern sports sedan with unmistakable Jaguars style.
