THE annual Langley Good Times Cruise-In brings thousands of visitors to the community to celebrate classic cars and fundraise for local charities. To ensure everyone has a safe and fun Cruise-In weekend, Langley RCMP say they will be conducting proactive law enforcement leading up to and throughout the event on Saturday, September 12.
In previous years, police officers have responded to drivers participating in illegal or unsanctioned car gatherings in which stunting and excessive speeding occurred. This driving creates unsafe conditions for participants, spectators, and other road users. It also disrupts residents, which generates complaints to police and diverts resources away from other public safety needs.
Proactive law enforcement leading up to, and during, the Cruise-In event (https://langleycruisein.ca/) will include:
* Increased patrols in known gathering areas
* Traffic enforcement targeting dangerous driving and excessive noise
* Tickets, vehicle impoundments, and other penalties under the Motor Vehicle Act where appropriate
“We are urging people to refrain from participating in unlawful driving activities to ensure that the Cruise-In remains a safe and enjoyable event for everyone,” said Inspector David Wise of Langley RCMP. “If you choose to ignore this warning, you risk fines, having your vehicle impounded, and possible criminal charges.”
The Langley RCMP is working closely with the event organizers and community partners to ensure the Cruise-In continues as a positive celebration of car culture. Anyone with concerns or information about illegal driving activities is asked to contact Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
