Police have identified the victim, but won’t release his name until his family is notified
THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been deployed to Ridge Meadows after a daylight shooting.
On Friday May 31 at approximately 5:12 p.m., Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to a report of a shooting in the area of 223 Street and Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge. First responders located a man suffering life-threatening injuries. Despite the best efforts of BC Emergency Health Services and frontline officers, the man succumbed to his injuries on scene. Witnesses reported seeing a suspect male, fleeing the scene.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken conduct of the investigation and continue to work closely in partnership with Ridge Meadows RCMP, the RCMP Forensic Identification Service and the BC Coroners Service.
Initial evidence suggests this to be an isolated incident with no ongoing risk to the public, say police.
IHIT investigators have identified the victim, but are not releasing his name at this time, to allow for proper notification to the family.
“Investigators will remain in the area canvassing for witnesses and collecting security camera footage,” said IHIT Sgt. Timothy Pierotti. “We are asking any witnesses or anyone with dash-camera footage from the area, to contact IHIT immediately.”
IHIT is asking any witnesses, anyone with dash-camera footage who was in the area of 223 Street and Lougheed Highway between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., or anyone with information regarding the investigation, to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
