Mehdi “Damian” Eslahian’s family appeals to public on one-year anniversary of Port Coquitlam shooting

THE family of Mehdi “Damian” Eslahian is appealing to witnesses on the one-year anniversary of his death.

“We know there are people out there who have critical information that can help bring this family closure,” said Sgt. Timothy Pierotti of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

On June 30, 2022, at 1:01 a.m., Coquitlam RCMP received a report of a shooting outside a residence in the 2700-block of Davies Avenue in Port Coquitlam. First responders located a 37-year-old man, later identified as Eslahian, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the best efforts of the first responders, Eslahian succumbed to his injuries on scene.

IHIT took conduct of the investigation and has continued to work closely in partnership with the Coquitlam RCMP Detachment, BC Coroners Service and the Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS).

Now, a year later, IHIT is appealing to the public for a witness to come forward.

“Now is the time to do the right thing,” said Pierotti. “This shooting took place in a residential neighbourhood.  We know there are people out there who have critical information that can help bring this family closure.”

Eslahian’s family is now issuing this public appeal:

“The death of Mehdi (Damian) has left us in a constant state of melancholy. He was a son, a father, a brother and a friend to those who knew him. He was taken away from us too soon and we will miss him forever. If you know anything about this case, please don’t hesitate and share what you know, even if it seems miniscule to you. Please do not let his death be in vain.”

IHIT is asking anyone with information to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
