METRO Vancouver Transit Police assisted VPD in arresting a 15-year-old boy on Saturday afternoon following a report of someone with a firearm on the SkyTrain.
On Saturday, July 18 at approximately 5:25 p.m., VPD officers responded to a call from the Nanaimo SkyTrain station. A teenager allegedly exposed a firearm to a passenger before boarding an eastbound train. VPD immediately broadcasted the suspect’s description to regional law enforcement partners.
Transit Police officers located the suspect at Edmonds SkyTrain station, where they took him into custody on the platform. A subsequent search revealed the teen was carrying a replica firearm and a knife. No one was injured in the arrest.
The youth was transferred to VPD custody and taken to jail. He has since been released and is facing a charge for weapons possession.
“We would like to thank Metro Vancouver Transit Police for assisting in the apprehension of a dangerous suspect,” said Constable Darren Wong. “Replica gun or not, this was potentially a very dangerous situation that could have ended much differently.”
