TANPREET Parmar, 20, the first girl from North Delta to win a provincial title in Miss BC’s 12-year pageant history, says: “If you believe in yourself, anything is possible.”
Her advice to women: “Don’t let anything bring you down, especially the standards modern society and media has set for us. It is not important to be a size zero, and it is definitely not important to look “perfect.” Feeling comfortable in your own skin and to actually feel beautiful when you look in the mirror is what essentially matters.”
She adds: “Nothing makes a woman more beautiful than the belief that she is beautiful. No matter what size or shape you are, or how many imperfections you may find, love yourself, and you’ll remain eternally beautiful.”
Indeed, “dream it, believe it, achieve it,” Tanpreet exhorts women.
Crowned “Miss Charity BC 2014-2015,” one of the top four provincial titles at Miss BC’s Pageant, Tanpreet also received the “People’s Choice 2014-2015” award that involves online voting by the public. She received the most votes out of 50 girls.
A second-year business student, a model and actress represented by Maijah Lewk Talent, and a mentor for young girls working with a non-profit organization, “BeaYOUtiful,” Tanpreet also fundraised the most money for Cops for Cancer, Miss BC’s charity of choice. She hosted a pub night in White Rock. All the proceeds went towards the Canadian Cancer Society. Her fundraiser had over 25 door prizes, Canucks tickets and gifts worth $500. It was a sold-out event.
Tanpreet told The VOICE: “I was born and raised in Hong Kong and moved to Vancouver when I was four years old. I’m a determined girl who is motivated to achieve goals I have set forth for myself. Ambitions and dreams are what help me push myself further.”
Tanpreet’s hobbies and interests include modeling, acting, dancing (Bollywood, Bhangra, hip hop), hot yoga, and volunteering within the community. She has participated in several charity events which include the North Delta Rotary Club, ELITE Vancouver, and Relay For Life (funding for cancer research). He is also a frequent donor to Big Brothers Canada.

>Participating in “RAW Beauty Talks” (non-profit organization):
I got photos taken without makeup, Photoshop or filter and participated in an interview about beauty, confidence and self-love. This was an authentic experience and something I’m extremely proud about. I did this to inspire other young girls and women to be comfortable in their own skin, just like I am. Being a model and actress, I have several of professional pictures which may look beautiful however I aim to remind girls that natural beauty is true beauty. You can still be beautiful even without makeup, photo shop and filters, because what they see on social media and magazines are unrealistic and gives the wrong impression of what being beautiful truly is.
BeaYOUtiful (non-profit organization)
Recently, I was selected to join “BeaYOUtiful” as a leader / mentor. “BeaYOUtiful” works with inner-city schools, helping young girls develop self-esteem, confidence and discover beauty within themselves and others. We provide a safe and fun environment for girls enrolled in the after school program. I’m extremely honored and proud to be chosen as a leader. This program will allow me to share my experiences, positivity and allow me to spread the sense of self-love, confidence and acceptance.
