SURREY City Centre MLA Amna Shah and Surrey-Guildford MLA Garry Begg attended the 7th Annual Folklore Festival 2026 hosted by Folk Star Arts Academy at the Bell Performing Arts Centre on Sunday, September 7.
The annual festival brought together community members, families, and cultural performers to celebrate the richness and diversity of folklore, traditional arts, and cultural heritage through music, dance, and artistic performances.
During the event, Shah and Begg delivered remarks recognizing the important contributions of cultural organizations in fostering inclusion, community engagement, and cross-cultural understanding throughout Surrey and British Columbia.
Shah congratulated Folk Star Arts Academy on organizing another successful festival and highlighted the importance of preserving cultural traditions while creating opportunities for future generations to connect with their heritage.
Begg acknowledged the dedication of organizers, performers, volunteers, and families who help make the festival possible each year. He noted that events such as the Folklore Festival strengthen community connections and showcase the diversity that makes Surrey one of Canada’s most vibrant and welcoming cities.
The MLAs thanked Folk Star Arts Academy for its ongoing commitment to promoting arts, culture, and multiculturalism, and wished continued success for future festivals.
