MINISTER Jessie Sunner, MLA for Surrey Newton, and Parliamentary Secretary Amna Shah, MLA for Surrey City Centre, joined community members at the annual Trinjan-hosted Kuri Mundey di Lohri celebration held on January 18 at a Surrey banquet hall.
The event, dedicated to honouring the birth of daughters and celebrating cultural heritage, brought together families, performers, and community leaders for an evening of tradition and togetherness. Sunner and Shah participated in the festivities, gathering with attendees around the bonfire and cheering on the vibrant folk dancers who showcased traditional Punjabi performances.
Sunner highlighted the spirit of Lohri as one rooted in community, joy, and cultural pride, noting the importance of celebrating with families and supporting events that uplift girls and women in the community.
Shah emphasized the value of cultural gatherings that strengthen community bonds and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to join residents in marking this meaningful occasion.
Also in attendance were the Legendary Sikh Riders, who joined the celebration in support of the event’s message of empowerment and cultural preservation.
Trinjan’s Kuri Mundey di Lohri continues to be a cherished annual tradition in Surrey, bringing together diverse members of the community to celebrate heritage, family, and the next generation.
